Eastern Airlines Flight 401: Tragedy, Death & The Ghosts That Live On

By Edwina Caito

On the night of Friday, December 29th, 1972 Eastern Airlines Flight 401 was carrying 176 people as it neared it's destination of the Miami Airport. Flying the L - 1011 jumbo jet were Captain Bob Loft and Second Officer Don Repo. The men were engaged in routine landing procedures when a warning light flashed on the control panel. There was a problem with the landing gear. The following is the flight communications log:

23.32:48 CAM-1 Go ahead and throw 'em out

Podunk

By LaKeisha Cox

Indiana is full of haunted tales. Podunk is a small and mysterious town in Midwestern folklore. There are several places that lay claim to this title. Growing up, the Podunk I always knew of was the area just outside Bargersville.

This version of Podunk carries multiple legends. In high school, my friends and I visited Podunk to test these stories. First, I would like to explain the events that are supposed to happen. Then, I will walk you through my experience so you can compare the two and draw your own conclusions.

Welcome HHGH's Newest Writer

Howdy, paranormal enthusiasts! My name is LaKeisha Cox. I am a 23 year old college student, mother to five dogs & a cat, an Army girlfriend and a blogger/writer. I have high hopes for my future. These hopes include writing, acting, poker playing, psychology-ing, and much more.

My partner is in the Army National Guard. We live in a cute little house in Edinburgh with all five dogs and the cat being indoors. The actual house we are living in is full of paranormal activity. Sights, sounds, and feelings are present fairly often, but we will save those stories for articles.

The Ghostly Passengers of Flight 191

By Brad Smith

For generations folklore and urban legends have been scorched in the culture of the United States. It seems almost every little city or town has some sort of ghost story or legend that shares strange similarities with other small cities and towns all across this country. Maybe it is just a coincidence due to tragic events creating this sort of phenomena to occur, or maybe there is more to it. For example, O’Hare International Airport shares some ghost stories with other airports, but O’Hare seems to have one story all of its own.

This event centers on the horrendous crash of flight 191 on May 25th, 1979 and also the events that happened after the crash. Many airports report similar ghost stories of strange passengers who disappear into thin air. They range from people who say they see a single passenger who died on a certain flight to entire plane crews and passengers who all passed away as in the case of flight 191. What makes this case so unique and not like most other urban legends is there is a mobile home park nearby that seems to encounter most of the restless spirits.

Paranormal Hoaxes

By Edwina Caito

In 1930, an urgent news bulletin interrupted “Mercury Theatre on the Air”. People were glued to their radios as word of an alien invasion swept the country. Calls flooded police stations and media outlets. Citizens were desperate to learn how they could flee their city or, in the least, protect themselves against the deadly gas attacks.

Orson Wells infamous “War of the Worlds” became much more than a clever stunt, it became known as a cruel hoax. People were outraged and far from being entertained.

Paranormal hoaxes have been commonplace through the centuries and are still prevalent today as video, audio, photographic equipment and computer programs become more advanced. Those who study the paranormal set out not only to find evidence of the paranormal, but also to separate scientific evidence from hoaxes.
